Because the B in the center of the boron trifluoride molecule does not satisfy the eight electrons (only six), it can be coordinated with a substance having a lone pair of electrons, while the oxygen in methanol has two lone pairs of electrons, therefore, oxygen takes out a pair of electrons and B are coordinated, and finally the formation of boron trifluoride methyl alcohol complex. |
| Application example | CN201010171290.8 involves a method for the synthesis of 2,3,4,4 '-tetrahydroxybenzophenone, 2,3,4,4'-tetrahydroxybenzophenone was synthesized from pyrogallic acid and p-Hydroxybenzoic acid using methanol solution of boron trifluoride as catalyst. 2,3,4,4 '-tetrahydroxybenzophenone was prepared by acylation reaction of pyrogallic acid and p-Hydroxybenzoic acid in methanol solution of boron trifluoride at a certain temperature. |
